Top 5 most-read stories April 2021: CBD innovation, powdered personal care and circular beauty
A round-up of CosmeticsDesign-Europe’s most-read news from April 2021 shows interest in CBD innovation from Colgate-Palmolive and future opportunities in cannabinoids, an eco-startup on a mission to make powdered personal care the norm, and expert insight on the future of circular beauty.
CBD spotlight – active oral care innovation and future NPD
Colgate-Palmolive filed a trio of patents on active oral care formulas integrating a cannabinoid, namely cannabidiol (CBD), for increased antibacterial efficacy and anti-inflammatory action.
This type of oral care innovation was outlined as one of CosmeticsDesign-Europes top five beauty trends to watch in 2021.
And as part of our special edition newsletter on Cannabis Beauty, published in April, there was plenty of interest on how industry continued to struggle with complex regulations and remained ‘stuck’ focused on CBD, despite plenty of opportunity elsewhere in the plant.
Eco-friendly future? Waterless and circular beauty
Swedish eco-startup Lifelong discussed its plans to expand business and upscale its concept of powdered personal care products that required mixing at-home by consumers. Its founder said the whole concept of the brand was to be “climate-friendly”.
Experts from across the beauty category – from Garnier, TerraCycle, Beauty Kitchen, Cradle to Cradle and The Green Chemist Consultancy – also joined forces to discuss the future opportunities and challenges in circular beauty. CosmeticsDesign’s dedicated online webinar tackled important issues around packaging, raw materials and green chemistry to work out whether mainstream circular beauty was a possibility.
