New indie skin care brand founder Aneela Zaman has been showcasing her Sleeping Beauty serum at industry shows across the country, at the CEW Demo Day in New York City, at IBE Dallas, and most recently at Cosmoprof North America in Las Vegas. That’s where Cosmetics Design caught up with the entrepreneur to discuss (among other things) why black cumin seed is her brand’s hero ingredient.

“Zaman Skincare is a luxury brand of face serums. And my hero product is Sleeping Beauty; it’s made with black cumin seeds,” brand founder Aneela Zaman tells Cosmetics Design by way of introduction.

The ingredient, she says, is full of vitamins and minerals that deliver skin care benefits—benefits she first learned about from her father (who worked with black cumin seed at Abbott Labs in Pakistan) and later confirmed with consumer survey data.

“We’re sourcing it from the Middle East,” says Zaman, “…so we’re getting the seeds overseas and having it all processed here in Los Angeles.”

Watch the full video interview above to learn more about the brand, how Zaman landed her product in a salon at the St. Regis Hotel, and much more.
