Can Pomegranate and Saw Palmetto keep the promise to promote Hair Health?
In people genetically susceptible to hair loss, dihydrotestosterone (DHT) binding to receptors in hair follicles induces progressive baldness. DHT is made from testosterone by the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. It seems that DHT causes the release of IL 6, an inflammatory molecule repressing elongation of the hair, following inflammation surrounding the hair follicle. Pomanox® inhibits IL6 gene expression and plasma levels and demonstrated significant increased hair density and thickness after 60 days of treatment. On the other hand, Prosterol® exhibited a significant inhibition of 5-alpha reductase activity in human dermal fibroblasts.
