In this episode of Indie Pioneers, we speak to Josephine Robson, the founder of skin care brand Golden 8 about the benefits of crocodile oil and the conservation efforts put in place to protect its future among Australia’s wildlife.

In Australia, crocodiles are farmed for their meat, skin and bones. Golden 8 harvests its oil from the fat by-product that is usually discarded and distils it into a potent oil for cosmetic use.

According to Robson, crocodile oil has a host of skin-loving and wound-healing benefits, making it the ideal ingredient for sensitive eczema-prone skin.

It also contains naturally occurring anti-microbial peptides, which she points out is the reason why wild crocodiles are able to heal their skin in dirty environments quickly.

Even though the product derived from an animal source, the company places a high priority on sustainability and conservation.

“The crocodile industry is quite incredible. It’s part of the best incentive-driven conservation programme in the world that also supports indigenous communities,” said Robson.
